Creative Artists

If you had to select an artist to do an creative art commission for you, which one would you choose?

creative honesty

Artist 1 – Trained at the best art university. Excellent knowledge of art history and schools of thought. Excelled in techniques and material knowledge in every field.
Not only that, he knows the right people.

Artist 2 – Completely self-taught. Passionate about her work. Refuses to listen to others regarding techniques and materials. Creates art in her own personal, nonconventional way.

Remember, we are talking art here, art is the heart, it is an individual and unique creation. A corporate trained person is a corporate trained thinker. No matter how talented they think they are, they know too many rules and too many reasons why not! They passed their exams, they impressed the system by conforming.

The heart does not need rules, it needs time and space in which to play. The corporate monkey has very little space because his head is packed with conventional teachings which is dogma masquerading as free expression.

The self-made artist has no idea what the system expects, he only knows what he needs to express.

You do not need training to be creative, intelligent and unique, you only need to be brave!

Ignore them, they're not clever like you

Every single person, including you, is capable of doing something that makes them unique. You have some sort of skill, talent, natural ability that is yours alone.

It might be a painting; words of wisdom that could be compiled into a book; a physical action like dancing; an exquisite sense of smell or colour; whatever… you understand something that nobody else understands. You have a special ability that nobody else has.

It may even be a personality trait such as smooth talking, selling your ideas, stubbornly holding to an idea until it becomes a fact, an extraordinary imagination…creative misery

You have done and can do amazing things. You have an individual way of expressing life. Think about it. Stop playing humble guy and bring your ability to the forefront. Then exploit it!

When you allow your uninhibited self to express you will find that you even impress yourself. Your most powerful expressions have been done without props, without any help at all. They came from your heart. Your abilities are free, they are the extras that came with you.

Find your talent, refine it and make some money from it! You are cleverer than you think.

Stop and look at the creative details

Sometimes you have to stop rushing to get to the project finished and take some time to attend to the details.

This blog is a creative work of art to me. It takes discipline, focus and determination to write something every week. However, if I want the multitudes to read and appreciate my efforts, I have to slow down and take the time to attend to the details. A blog is not instantly found by thousands. Keywords and key phrases have to be inserted. There are plugins that have to be added to make it more interesting and tempting for you the reader. Many details for me to learn and attend to.

As an artist, when I first began painting, it was splash and crash. I used the excuse that this was the way that the sea appeared to me. However, week after week, year after year, I paid attention to different details, until my product was no longer the product of an unruly ocean, but is now more like the peace and beauty of a work of harmony. The details took care of the overall picture.

Stop every now and then and tidy up the little things that can make a big difference to your creative work.

Follow that wispy thread of an idea

Sometimes I get a really good idea. That’s easy, I do something about it. It does not necessarily work or convert to dollars. (I find that dollars from ideas is useful, since I need to eat and do those human things that get in the way of freedom!)

However, at other times, when I catch a thread of an idea, only a glimpse, I write them down carefully, every time… well I should, I don’t actually do that. What happens is that I think, that’s a great idea, I’ll remember that later and follow it up. Of course, I don’t remember later and I’ve lost it.

Fortunately, My wife, Lina does put ideas on paper, hers as well as mine, so not all is lost! A small idea can be fun to pursue. It does not have to be practical. Glimpses of imaginative opportunities can open the way to new, creative ways of doing things.

Play with the threads that you capture. Stretch them and twist them, see if you can weave something unique out of them. Odd thoughts can lead to outstandingly creative ideas.

Unintentionally, these words have led me to mention again, my new blog, ‘Underground Delights’. That is an imaginative idea. I hope it works and people write stories for me. It would be fun to read about imaginative, odd and crazy creativity from a variety of minds. This blog is designed to capture those wisps of ideas that race across your mind when you least expect to be entertained.

So when you catch a glimpse of a possibility, write it down, or at least hope that your partner does!
