It is not always good to share when you are in a very sensitive situation. Learning a new skill requires a lot of bravado. Whether you are learning to drive a car or a golf ball, you will make mistakes and do stupid things… so what? Well people might make good-hearted fun about you and normally you would not mind but… when you are learning you can be very sensitive.

In other words to avoid setbacks in self-confidence sometimes it’s better if you don’t tell anyone your secret. You can show them your skill when you are confident but while you are still a bit shaky, keep it to yourself.

When you are learning a new skill, you are very sensitive to criticism, from yourself as well as from others. You can’t avoid yourself, but you can certainly avoid comments from others.

Don’t feel as if you have to show your work to anybody else. Don’t act as if their comments are of value to you. Sometimes it is a lot smarter to say nothing.

There will be plenty of opportunities to show your work to the world when you have the confidence with it. At the beginning, take it easy and shut your mouth!

It can be a relief to work privately while you experiment and take chances and make mistakes. If you are exploring a new skill, you need the space and privacy to experiment. You need room to be outrageous. You do not need candid or unsympathetic comments from others.

Shhh… keep it to yourself and you will love the feeling of freedom.

Problem is that everybody likes to think they are a valid critic due to the proliferation of opinionated reality TV judges. Be warned – people WANT to criticize in order to feel like an educated analyst and this will be at your overly-sensitive expense.
